It seems like Crystal Palace are again heading back to the crisis situation they were experiencing at the start of the season, having slumped to the relegation zone for a good part of it. However, they recovered dramatically from the horrendous pit they were in and dished out a number of brilliant performances, including a shock win over the defending champions Chelsea and a hard-fought draw against this term’s Premier League champions-elect Manchester City, getting them to a comfortable position in the process.
However, a slump in form in the last few matches have seen the Eagles once again face a similar situation just as it was at the beginning of the term for them. Roy Hodgson’s men are currently standing at the 17th position in the league table and might be preparing themselves for a possible battle to keep their place in the top flight as the business end of the season approaches.
Amidst all the conundrum, reports have confirmed that the Eagles are ready to part ways with their out of favour midfielder Jordan Mutch. The 26-year-old has not featured for the South London outfit on regular basis and has been entitled to a move to the Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps on a 12-month long loan, subject to an official announcement in the next 24-48 hours.
Mutch did not have much to do at the South London club since his move to the outfit in 2015 from Queens Park Rangers. Known for his ability to hold onto the ball in the middle of the pitch and make decent passes, the English midfielder was sent on loan to the Championship to play for Reading in the second half of the last term. The Championship outfit made it into the playoffs, only to see themselves get beaten by Huddersfield Town in the final and missing the chance to head back to the top flight.
However, Mutch made only 9 appearances for the club throughout his loan stint and was not even considered to be kept in the squad for either of the Semifinal matches against Fulham or the Final against the Terriers.
Will the departure of this former English Under 21 international affect the progress of his side in the Premier League by any means? The player has played only thrice this season for the Eagles, all of them as a substitute, which evidently shows that the Englishman was not considered, by far, an important enough entity to feature in the middle of the pitch. Rather a move to the MLS might see the 26-year-old fight for a place in his new side and have a chance to resurrect his career.
