Antonio Conte will not be a happy man with the returns of his Chelsea side this season. The Blues are in danger of missing out on a place in the Champions League next season but that has not stopped the club from scouting for superstars for a move at the end of the season.
Conte is desperate to add to his defensive options, mainly at left-back and has been keeping an eye on Italian star Alex Sandro for quite a while now. But the Juventus star seems happy to remain in Serie A beyond this summer, leaving Chelsea in a mix.
This has sent the Blues in search of another transfer target for this role and the latest name doing the rounds is Kwadwo Asamoah.
Born and brought up in Ghana, Asamoah made his debut in England at the youth academy at Torino but only made a name for himself with his services for the Udinese senior side, where he spent four long years, making 114 league appearances before he was snapped up by Italian giants Juventus.
He has been at Turin for the past six years but has not been able to cement a place in the first team, only acting as a utility player for Massimiliano Allegri at the moment. With just 13 Serie starts this season under his belt, Asamoah has managed just an assist to his name and is no longer a serious part of the squad for Old Lady.
To add to it, he is out of a contract at the end of the season and does not look like he wants to extend his stay at Juve. So it does not come as a surprise that the likes of AC Milan and SSC Napoli are also interested in his services. But Conte now wants Asamoah as an alternative to Sandro, having given up on the Italian star. So is Asamoah the right man for Chelsea?
A versatile left-back, who is at his best playing as a wing-back, the 29-year old can also play in the midfield, Asamoah is an established star, with 69 appearances for the Ghana national team. Known for his pace and strength in defending, the full-back loves to take on his player on the wing but has great vision and technique, that allows him to create chances galore.
At 29, he is still in his best years as a footballer and could be a huge coup for Chelsea. The Blues have Marcos Alonso as the only option at left wing-back and can use Asamoah over Alonso if needed. He is ready to walk into the first team and on a free transfer, making him a risk worth taking.
