According to recent reports, Chelsea already have a deal in place for AS Roma striker, Edin Dzeko for the next summer. A failed attempt in January did force the Blues to sign an alternative in Olivier Giroud but Antonio Conte still wants the proven goalscorer at Stamford Bridge for the next season.
Edin Dzeko is one of the prime number nines in European football having scored 17 goals in 37 appearances for the Italian outfit this season. He has Premier League experience from his five-year stint with Manchester City, where he scored 72 goals in 182 games. He is a cemented starter in Roma’s chase for a European qualification spot finish but it looks like the Financial Fair Play regulations are forcing them to part ways with the striker.
Chelsea’s record signing, Alvaro Morata had hit the ground running early in the season. He proved himself as an able replacement of Diego Costa with 8 goals and 2 assists in his first few games. At the time, it looked like the club had snatched away a better deal by acquiring the Spaniard over Romelu Lukaku.
However, getting sidelined with an injury completely threw him off the seamless ride and the striker has been struggling ever since. The fans were left shell shocked to see their star signing miss clear cut chances against their rivals, Arsenal in the 2-2 league tie. Judging by Antonio Conte’s reactions from the sidelines over the last few games and Morata’s recent team selection, the Italian might just have lost all faith in the Spaniard.
Giroud has been a deserved starter, mostly due to his abilities in holding up the game and linking up with his teammates. However, the 31-year-old is yet to break his scoring slump in the Premier League even though he looks to be in fine form for his country.
Chelsea are struggling in the 5th spot of the Premier League table and a proven goalscorer is necessary to improve upon their current season performances.
This makes the entire transfer move for Dzeko ideal for the final stretch of the current season. The Bosnian hitman is an able and willing poacher who possess other talents that just finding the back of the net.
The fans at the Bridge are anticipating the resurgence of Morata but if he still fails to convert, Dzeko can more than easily fill up the role with Eden Hazard and Willian next to him.
