Chelsea are planning on making a swoop for AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma if they end up parting ways with Thibaut Courtois next summer. According to recent reports, the Blues are keeping tabs on the teenage wonderkid and are lining him up to succeed Courtois, if he opts for a switch out of Stamford Bridge in the near future.
The Belgian has been heavily touted to make a move to Real Madrid as talks over a new deal with Chelsea rumble on. His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2019 which means that he will just have a year left to run at the end of the current season. Hence, it is being reported that the Blues could opt to sell their prized asset this summer with Los Blancos leading the chase to sign him.
The West London outfit have quickly moved and put plans in place if Courtois departs with some sources claiming that Antonio Conte’s side are now tracking Donnarumma who is reportedly prepared to part ways with AC Milan when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign after his agent, Mino Raiola, fell out with the club’s hierarchy. However, they are not the only ones chasing after him with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in making a swoop for the Italian starlet.
The West London club are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table with a tally of 56 points in 30 Premier League matches but are a staggering 22 points behind league leaders Manchester City. They are in dire need of reinforcements in the summer as they look to bridge the gap between themselves and the top 4 in the coming years.
The potential departure of Courtois will be a massive blow for the Blues but if they can secure the services of Donnarumma, then not only will they be getting a good goalkeeper, but also a player with massive potential. At 19, he still has a whole career ahead of him which Chelsea could look to utilise in the coming seasons. The Italian teenager will be a long-term solution to their goalkeeping troubles and is well capable of lining up for the Blues for years to come.
Donnarumma has featured in 40 matches for AC Milan this season and has conceded just 36 goals while also keeping 19 clean sheets across all competitions. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Italian starlet and whether he ends up making a switch to the Premier League in the near future.
