Rangers recent resurgence suffered a huge setback when they suffered a shocking defeat against age-old rivals Celtic in Sunday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox. The Hoops came back twice from behind and clinched a second-half winner despite being down to ten men. This is the Gers’ fourth straight defeat at home against the Glasgow rivals whom they have not beaten since March 2012.
The Light Blues, nevertheless, have improved immensely under Graeme Murty and are confident of closing the gap with Brendan Rodgers’ men who are miles ahead of their rivals in terms of quality as well as consistency. Yet, Rangers have shown promises this season, shaking of shambles of their darkest days and the fans must dream of the glorious years ahead in terms of transfers and title challenge.
Although the Gers had a successful winter transfer window, they still need to strengthen the squad further in summer and are now reportedly monitoring the situation of Preston North End forward Louis Moult, who completed his move from Motherwell only in January. The former Stoke City youngster has been acquired by Alex Neil who has sensationally transformed the Lilywhites into promotion aspirants. Moult’s success in Scottish Premiership resulted in a £500,000 Championship switch, but the striker has so far struggled to settle in new surroundings.
The 25-year-old Englishman had previous spells in the lower leagues of English football before plying his trade to Scotland where he rose to fame during his successful stint with the Steelmen. Neil, however, is not content with Moult’s display and handed him only a couple of starts so far along with four substitute appearances. The player has hardly left any impact yet with no goal or assist to his name and the club is reportedly willing to listen to offers for the former Scottish Premiership star.
The news, meanwhile, has surfaced as a massive transfer boost for Rangers who are reportedly keen on offering the forward a way out and return to Premiership. He is a renowned name in Scotland and his aggressive approach suits the style of Scottish football. The Light Blues have Alfredo Morelos upfront who has been a revelation as club’s new ‘number 9’, but the increasing demands for the young Colombian might result in his departure anytime soon. Moult will be a shrewd business if he joins the Gers and replicate his form of Motherwell days.
Moult’s brace knocked Rangers out of the Scottish League Cup semi-final back in October and the player enjoyed an impressive two and a half year spell with 50 goals in 98 outings altogether before going back to England. The Gers, on the other hand, are aggressively looking for reinvesting in the squad and a summer swoop for Louis Moult is right on the track.
