Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic is being linked with a move for Real Zaragoza forward Borja Iglesias. The 25-year-old striker man is being seen as an insurance signing should Celtic’s star man Dembele leave.
Celtic forward Moussa Dembele bagged 32 goals in his first season in Scotland which helped Celtic swoop the domestic treble. Despite struggling with injuries this term he still has eight goals in twenty games for the Hoops. He has scored a massive 40 goals in just under 75 games for the club already and has become their first team hitman above Griffiths. The 21-year-old Frenchman is tipped to become one of the deadliest finishers in Europe and has been linked with a great number of clubs, including many in the Premier League.
It is now being reported that Iglesias is on the radar of the Scottish side. The Spaniard who is on loan at Zaragoza from Celta Vigo has scored 6 goals in his last six games for the Spanish side this season but failed to make the cut at Celta where most of his appearances came for the B team. The 25-year-old should be available for a price Celtic can afford. The forward player himself will not be opposed to a move that might see him learn some football in foreign lands.
As for Celtic, it is not regular to think that a side who lost 7-1in Europe in one midweek to be league champions for years running. However, Celtic’s domestic performances have been very contrasting to their European form this season. While in the Scottish Premier League they have been nothing but ruthless and dominating, their Champions League adventure has seen them struggle in front of the European powerhouses.
Celtic have won 20 and drawn 8 in the league and lost just 2. However, as one might recall, they opened their Champions League campaign with a heavy defeat drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint Germain and were again reminded of the difference in class between the two sides in their last outing when they were thrashed 7-1.
They, however, still clinched the third spot and qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League, once again reminding Europe that they are there and thereabout. With the club managing to hang around in Europe and a domestic season where they look set to clinch another title, a new addition to the team is not the worst idea, especially given the fact that Dembele might soon be on his way out.
