Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to let Scott Allan leave the club on a permanent basis. He has never had to play the midfielder under his tenure at Celtic and seems okay with allowing him to join Hibernian FC on a permanent deal.
“I watched the Rangers -Hibs game the other day and thought that Scott played really well in it,” he said. “Sometimes there are players who are just suited to a certain club, and when I look at Scotty, he seems right at Hibs.”
“He’s a great boy. I’ve never had an issue with him, but he’s at a stage where he wants to play. I had a good summer working with him when I came in here, but he’d had a few ups and downs and it was about letting him go out and play somewhere. Scott has a lot of qualities.”
Allan has another year left on his contract but Rodgers does not want to see the player waste his quality at a club where he will not get game time. Allan signed for Celtic back in 2015 from Edinburgh club by Ronny Deila but was unable to feature for the club under Brendan Rodgers.
The 26-year old has been out on various loans throughout his spell. He spent the entire last season out on loan at Rotherham before returning to his parent club last summer. After beginning camp and pre-season with the Celtic team, Allan was once again forced to seek new pastures in order to get game time.
This time around he opted for a domestic call and joined Dundee where he played until January before returning. He is currently on loan at Hibernian and there is a possibility he may complete a full transfer with Celtic agreeing to let him go, as mentioned above.
The player is only 26-year old and needs to play wherever he is. This is the prime age for a midfielder to ripen and showcase his true talent. There is no point for Allan to stay back at Celtic and lose out on game time.
Instead, if he joins a slightly lesser team, he may not be able to win every match or play on the ball as much as he likes but he will get some much-needed game time to develop his game and maybe one day return to Celtic as a star rather than a bench-warmer.
Let’s hope he does what his best for his future and we do not lose out on a potentially talented footballer.
