Leeds United could be handed the opportunity to sign Pierre-Michel Lasogga on a permanent basis next summer. According to recent reports, Hamburger CV would be willing to sanction a deal for the German forward this summer as they prepare for life after relegation. Bernd Hollerbach’s side find themselves in 17th place in the Bundesliga standings, seven points behind a promotion/relegation play-off spot. Hence, they have to be ready for life after relegation and apply for a license to ply their trade in the second tier of German football which means that they have to significantly reduce their wage bill in the offseason.
It is expected that some big-name players will depart the club in the summer and one of them might be Pierre-Michel Lasogga. The 26-year-old signed for Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Hamburg last summer, arriving at Elland Road as a replacement for Chris Wood after his big-money move to Burnley.
He has scored 10 goals while creating four assists in 23 league matches for Leeds United this season. The addition of Lasogga on a permanent deal will undoubtedly bolster Paul Heckingbottom’s attacking options going into the new campaign as they try to win a promotion back to the Premier League.
Leeds United are currently in 13th place in the Skybet Championship standings with a tally of 49 points in 35 league matches. Paul Heckingbottom’s side are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks along with a lot of luck to have any chance of securing a playoff spot at the end of the season. The Peacocks find themselves a massive 8 points behind sixth-placed Bristol City, who occupy the final playoff position with just seven matches to go in this season. Only time will tell whether the new manager can push his players to climb up the table going into the final stretch of the campaign.
The Peacocks have been heavily reliant on Lasogga’s contributions this season after the German forward has shown that he can find the back of the net on a consistent basis. At 26, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Leeds United can look to utilise in the coming years. Hamburg’s willingness to part ways with Lasogga at the end of the season should come as a big boost in their chances of securing his services permanently.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Lasogga and whether Lasogga ends up making a permanent switch to Elland Road.
