Rumours of a probable club exit for Robert Lewandowski continues to hit the tabloids with Paris Saint-Germain touted to be his next destination. The Ligue 1 side is reportedly targeting the Bayern Munich number nine’s signature next summer as Edinson Cavani’s replacement.
PSG believe that Lewandowski is an improved version of their Uruguayan striker and many of the football fans would be inclined to agree with them. While Cavani has scored a remarkable amount of goals in the past few seasons with the French giants, Lewandowski has eclipsed him in terms of quality and efficiency.
Cavani has managed 163 goals in 223 appearances for the Parisians while the Polish international has racked up 142 in 183 with the Bayern. Lewandowski is an imperfect understanding of where goals come from and any club would agree to his transfer at a heartbeat. The Polish-international has spent the last 3-and-a-half years with Der FCB and has developed into one of best strikers in modern football.
He even managed to grab himself 4 Guinness World Record certificates after scoring 5 goals in a single match, the fastest hattrick and the only player to do so in the Bundesliga.
He came to the Allianz Arena to chase even bigger trophies than he had managed with Borussia Dortmund, under Jurgen Klopp. He was on the wrong end of the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley which saw his current employers lift the trophy.
Lewandowski has managed 3 successive Bundesliga titles and is well poised to win his 4th but the league is hardly a competition for the German giants at this point. The European trophy has eluded him and this might have raised a few questions about his future with the Bavarians.
However, is Paris Saint-Germain the right side to fulfil his career ambitions and should Bayern let him leave so easily?
Real Madrid knocked PSG out of the UEFA Champions League by beating them 2-5 on an aggregate score. The European champions exposed the inexperience and a lack of intent from the Paris side over the 2 legs in the Round of 16 stage.
Even with the firepower of Neymar, Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, PSG were caught out of their element and the promise of continental success has been shattered. Not only would it be foolish for Lewandowski to take his talents to France, it would be even more of an oversight if Bayern allows him to leave the Allianz Arena.
They are still top contenders in the European competition and currently have a scoring machine who does a lot more than his usual duties. It might take years to replace a talent like Lewandowski who is currently enjoying the peak of his footballing career.
