Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert has urged his son Justin Kluivert, who plays for AFC Ajax, to join Barcelona in the near future. According to recent reports, the 18-year-old Dutch starlet has been encouraged by his father to snub a move to Manchester United in favour of a switch to the Nou Camp.
The Ajax teenager is currently one of the most sought-after youngsters in European football after he broke into the Dutch outfit’s first-team last year. Kluivert is currently enjoying a sensational campaign in the Johan Cruijff Arena and his dazzling displays for Ajax this season has alerted some of Europe’s most elite clubs. He has featured in 30 matches for Ajax this season, scoring 8 goals while creating 4 assists in all competitions.
Kluivert came through the youth ranks at Ajax and has massive potential to become one of the best players in Europe. It is believed that the Red Devils were interested in securing his services recently but his dad, Patrick Kluivert has addressed the media and was quoted to have said,
‘I’m very proud of him. He’s doing very good at Ajax,’
‘He’s now a first XI player. If he’s playing like this in the long-term, he could be one important player in the future.
‘Of course, I prefer that he goes to Barcelona but in football everything can happen. ‘He’s an adult, he can make his own decisions but he’s already said it’s a dream for him to play for Barcelona. But you never know in football.’
The Catalans are currently leading the La Liga standings with a tally of 75 points in 29 league matches. They are 11 points above second-placed Atletico Madrid with just 9 matches to go in this campaign. Ernesto Valverde’s side has also secured progression into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and are now set to face AS Roma over two legs next month for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
Barcelona already have the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Paco Alcácer vying for a place in Valverde’s first-team. The addition of Kluivert will undoubtedly bolster their attacking options and add more competition for places in the Barca squad.
The Dutch youngster is definitely a player with a lot of promise and can thrive under Valverde if given the opportunity to showcase his talents at the Nou Camp. He is highly versatile and can operate on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for any of his potential suitors. At 18, Kluivert still has a lot of years to grow and develop his game and fulfil his massive potential. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the 18-year-old wide man and whether he ends up making a switch to Catalonia in the near future.
