Aston Villa have been one of the best sides in the Championship this season and under the tutelage of Steve Bruce, they haven’t flattered to deceive. Although it would take herculean efforts from the Villans, along with some miracles, to earn an automatic promotion to the Premier League, they are looking all set to finish inside the top-six of the league table and venture into the playoffs.
Irrespective of what churns out at the end of the season for them, Aston Villa are looking into the foreseeable future as well. After finalising a new deal with Mitchell Clark, who is one of the highly rated youngsters in Bruce’s ranks, earlier this week, the Lions have taken yet another stupendous stride a couple of days ago by making Andre Green sign on the dotted line of a new deal that would keep him at the Villa Park until 2020.
Green blossomed in the youth ranks of Aston Villa and is unarguably one of the finest prodigies to have surfaced from the same of late. The 19-year-old has featured 26 times for the senior side of his employers already and has also represented the various youth sides of England national team. He has immense calibre and potential to offer and there is no denying that.
Predominantly a winger, Green is versatile enough to ply his trade as a central attacking midfielder as well as a midfielder. He possesses blistering pace in his boots and his dribbling skills are quite exemplary. The Englishman is good in the air, has the required technical understanding of the game and showcases notable amount of work-ethic on the pitch more often than not.
He is a disciplined lad, has the knack to create chances, has skills to thrive in the final third and offers something different than most of the other youngsters. However, he has had many injury issues to deal with and that has proved to be a stumbling block in his developmental process. Green started the season with a lot of promise but an awful hamstring tear in September which required surgery.
He returned in January but his hamstring problem emerged once again and has been out of action for the last couple of months. The Englishman is set to make his return in the business end of the season and given the qualities he has, he could play a pivotal role in Aston Villa’s endeavours for promotion. The new deal that has been handed to him is a no-brainer as Green’s staggering talents is expected to come handy for Aston Villa.
