Aston Villa are reportedly ready to come in and make a bid for former Manchester United man Nick Powell. Powell first came into the limelight while playing for Manchester United. He was given his debut by none other than Sir Alex Ferguson. The legendary Scottish manager had a reputation for spotting talent and Powell was tipped to become a star. However, things unravelled rather badly for him and he is now playing for League One side Wigan Athletic.
Aston Villa is fourth in the Championship table and fighting for a playoff spot this season. The Midlands club has collected 63 points from 34 games and are 6 points above the required number to qualify for the playoffs. They are also just 6 points off the top of the table.
They have produced a mean defence this time and have conceded only 32 goals in 34 matches. The Villains have the third best defensive record in the league and are looking set to play in the Premier League next season. It is in coordination with such circumstances that Aston Villa are reportedly ready to bolster their side by considering a move for Nick Powell of Wigan Athletic.
The Villains were reportedly interested in the player in the winter transfer window but failed to get him in January. The Midlands club is, however, not ready to accept defeat and will not be bogged down by their failure to land the player.
The former Manchester United and current Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell has been linked with a move to many sides during the last transfer window in January. The English player failed to impress at Manchester United where he made only 9 appearances in four years. He subsequently moved to Wigan in 2016 where he has impressed for the Latics.
He is now being scouted for a transfer by two English clubs in the form of Brighton and Hove Albion and Aston Villa.
Although any interested club will have to deliver the nominal fee Wigan will charge owing to their Financial Fair Play problems should they wish to pry away Powell from the League One club, they must think it through. Given Aston Villa’s need to beef up their squad to deliver in the new season, Powell could very well prove to be a bargain at such a low price in today’s market.
