Fresh reports have surfaced linking Arsenal to Napoli’s central midfielder, Jorginho along with Manchester United and Liverpool. The 26-year-old has been closely monitored by the latter 2 clubs and Arsene Wenger wants to join in on the race ahead of the summer transfer window.
Jorginho is a regular starter under Maurizio Sarri with 30 appearances in all competitions this season. The Brazilian ace has racked up 4 goals and 4 assists over the course of the 2017/18 campaign and has been a key figure in the side’s remarkable challenge for the league title.
Napoli are at the summit of the Serie A and are a point above defending champions, Juventus after the 27th game week. However, their position might be under threat after the weekend 2-4 loss to AS Roma and the Black and Whites have an extra game on hand to play catch up.
While Napoli’s success in the current season can be attributed to the style of play that Sarri has implemented, Jorginho has been at the heart of it all. The former Verona player has bossed the midfield from the deep anchor position and has played a major part on both ends of the pitch.
His responsibilities are shifted around the quota of winning balls while at the same time linking up with his teammates and formulating the attacks.
Jorginho’s technical abilities paired with his strong 5 feet 11 inches physical structure make him one of the best playmakers in the Serie A. The type of service that will be welcomed with open arms at a side like Arsenal.
The North London side are undergoing a major crisis of their own with both their midfield players, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey uncertain about their future. Wenger’s side has also fallen to woeful depths in terms of their seasonal ambitions and are on a 4-game losing streak, which ended last night with their 0-2 win over AC Milan in the Europa League.
While finishing the season in the top-4 might already be out of the question, making the return to the Champions League football cannot be ruled out just yet.
Winning the Europa League is their biggest priority now that the gap behind Chelsea in the 5th spot has been extended to 8 points after the 2-1 Brighton And Hove Albion weekend loss. The midfield currently features Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey in the deep holding role with Mohamed Elneny as a rotational appear.
If either Ramsey or Wilshere makes an exit Wenger will be too short-handed in the creative option since Francis Coquelin has also left for Valencia. So it can be said that adding a player of Jorginho’s calibre might be advantageous for the Gunners.
