Finally, after 4 games without a win, Arsenal were successful in breaking the streak with a 0-2 showing against AC Milan tonight.
A refreshing start to the game by the visitors saw them break the deadlock in the 15th minute.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan cut inside towards his right and slammed in a powerful shot, a quick deflection off Bonucci completely threw Donnarumma off and the ball ended up at the back of the net. 0-1
Arsenal looked more confident on the ball even though AC Milan had their moments. Mkhitaryan could have scored a second in a similar fashion but unfortunately hit the woodwork.
Right before the halftime whistle, Ozil glided a ball past the Milan backline to find Aaron Ramsey through on goal. One on one with the goalkeeper, the Welshman calmly dribbled past Donnarumma and netted the ball with style. 0-2
Milan created the first open chance in the second half. Calabria’s cross was met by Bonaventura’s right foot inside the penalty box but unfortunately, it travelled wide from goal.
Gennaro Gattuso’s men tried to spark a comeback but were not assertive enough. This allowed Arsenal to continue putting the pressure on the Milan backline and looked menacing towards a third.
Here is how the Arsenal players were rated on the night.
David Ospina – 6/10
Some of his decisions were not the best tonight and it could have cost Arsenal. Fortunately, it didn’t and the game ended with a clean sheet.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6/10
He did not allow Cutrone to settle inside the Arsenal half and read the Milan attacks early.
Laurent Koscielny – 8/10
Very clinical with his clearances tonight and made a crucial block. He had a vital touch to a cross as well which would have found Kessie open on goal.
Calum Chambers – 6/10
Very eager and energetic while surging forward but questionable on the defensive end. Worked hard tonight to hold off Calhanoglu but had a few dodgy moments.
Sead Kolasinac – 6/10
He got beaten by Suso on a couple of occasions but slowly found his rhythm. Had to come off due to injury.
Granit Xhaka – 5/10
Lost the ball when he didn’t need to and his passes were not always up to the mark. He put in a decent shift on defence.
Jack Wilshere – 7/10
A wonderful performance by the 26-year-old after a run of poor displays. He bossed the midfield with his quick turns and sharp one-twos.
Aaron Ramsey – 6/10
The goal was scored in remarkable fashion but otherwise, the Welshman struggled to get going tonight. He lost possession often and was shrugged off the ball far too easily.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7/10
The Armenian was impressive tonight and quite deservedly got his first goal in the competition. He constantly threatened the Milan defence with his backdoor runs and deft touches.
Mesut Ozil – 8/10
So simple and yet so clinical? The German did brilliantly to earn himself the 2 assists.
Danny Welbeck – 5/10
Very poor with possession and was trying to do things which he looked incapable of doing – take on defenders on the dribble.
Substitutes:
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7/10
Did very well to adjust to the pace of the game and got tight on the threatening Suso.
Rob Holding – NA
Mohamed Elneny – NA
