Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates may be in a pickle but that has not stopped the club from planning for the next season. Arsenal might need a chance, more than just their manager, if they are to compete for silverware next season and this has seen them linked with some of the finest stars in Europe for a move this summer.
One such player, who continues to be linked with a move to Emirates is Real Madrid star, Dani Ceballos.
A transfer target for AS Roma and Liverpool as well, the Spanish midfielder has not been able to establish himself in the first team at Bernabeu this season and has seen just 715 minutes of action in all competitions. With Real Madrid planning a squad overhaul this summer, it is understandable that he is scared of his chances at the club next season.
Reports from Spain now claim that his agent is now actively pursuing a new club for his client this summer. Though he has a solid five years on his deal with a €500m release clause in his contract, he is not expected to cost over the odds but is he the right man for Arsenal?
A central midfielder who is effective at both ends of the field, Ceballos is a gifted footballer with great technique and strength, that allows him to turn away from even the tightest of corners, even in dangerous areas. He is well adept at controlling the tempo of the game and is not only a super dribbler but can also break defences with through balls and is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Spain at the moment.
He was the Player of the Tournament for the UEFA European U21 Championship last year and has the potential to turn into one of the best in the game. At just 21, he already has 74 La Liga appearances and has scored a couple of goals in just 212 minutes of league action this season.
He is not too far away from a national team call-up and is a huge coup for the Gunners if they are able to pull it off.
The Gunners have recently offered Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny a new long-term deal as they prepare for the exit of Jack Wilshere on a free transfer at the end of the season. Aaron Ramsey is also linked with an exit leaving Granit Xhaka as the only settled midfielder for the Gunners next season.
Ceballos can walk into the first team next season and will not only improve the quality in the middle of the park but will also add some balance that has been lacking at times this season. But do you think he is the right man for Arsenal?
