Burnley are ready to end all speculations over their current number 1 goalkeeper, Nick Pope by offering him double wages. His closest suitors, Newcastle United will have to either convince the 25-year-old with a better deal or look for able replacements next season.
The currently have Martin Dubravka as their number 1 shot-stopper who is serving a loan spell with the Tyneside club away from Sparta Prague. While talks of a permanent deal are being considered, it would not hurt for Rafael Benitez to look for better options.
United’s former first-team goalkeeper, Rob Elliot has been struggling with injuries for what seems like the entire season now and Karl Darlow was the second option to replace him. While Darlow impressed majority of the times, he did have a few moments in the shades of grey, which eventually led to him being dropped from the starting XI.
The Magpies are in the 13th spot of the Premier League table, 4 points ahead of the relegation spots after their weekend 3-0 win over Southampton. Their fight for survival needs to improve next season with further additions in the summer window.
Here are a few alternatives Benitez should consider ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Joe Hart
The 30-year-old is currently spending a season out on loan to West Ham United and have already fallen behind Adrian in the pecking order.
Manchester City are well covered in the goalkeeper department with Ederson and Claudio Bravo and a transfer might just be in the talks for the England international.
Hart has undergone a rough period in his professional career over the past 2 seasons. Right after Pep Guardiola was appointed as the manager of the Citizens, Hart was sent out on loan to Serie A outfit, Torino.
His contract is set to end following the current campaign and Benitez can give the troubled England international an escape.
Scott Carson
For some, Derby County’s player of the season last year has been Scott Carson and is a key figure under Gary Rowett for Derby. Helping the Pride Park side become one of the best defensive teams in the division, despite their up and down form for most of the campaign. The former England man has been vital for the Rams as they aim to finally secure promotion.
Joel Robles
Everton keeper and the 3rd choice behind Jordan Pickford and Martin Stekelenburg has already confirmed his wishes to quit the Premier League outfit as soon as an offer comes in. He is not happy with the current role he has with the Toffees and is set to leave after his contract runs out in the summer.
