Fulham might have managed to keep their sensational midfielder, Tom Cairney, in their ranks after the January transfer window but the Watford Examiner has reported that Watford, West Ham United and Newcastle United are interested to prise him out of the Craven Cottage in the summer.
It would not be easy for the Whites to have their grip over him in the near future and for the Championship outfit, it would make a lot of sense if they start vouching for alternative players who could replace him and here are three such options for Fulham.
Luke Freeman
Queens Park Rangers versatile midfielder, Luke Freeman, was linked with Fulham in the January transfer window and he is someone who would be a perfect replacement for Cairney. Freeman is capable of plying his trade as a central midfielder as well as a central attacking midfielder and is well familiar with English football.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has plundered 5 goals and has registered 11 assists from 37 appearances in the Championship and there is no denying that there would be many clubs lining up for him in the summer. He is a cunning midfielder who has the knack to score goals, create chances for his teammates and has the required attacking prowess to make an impact in the final third.
Sammy Ameobi
Bolton Wanderers’ attacking midfielder, Sammy Ameobi, had struggled during his time with Newcastle United and his loan deals with Middlesbrough and Cardiff City hardly produced anything to resurrect his career. However, his fortunes started to pencil an upward trajectory after his move to the Macron Stadium.
Ameobi has been regularly used by the Trotters this season and in 27 appearances in English second division, the 25-year-old has scored 4 goals and has bagged an assist to his name. He has plenty of experience under his capable, can operate anywhere in the attacking zone and should fit into Slavisa Jokanovic’s tactics brilliantly.
James Maddison
Norwich City’s James Maddison is arguably one of the hottest properties in the Championship at the moment and he would be a ground shattering signing for the Cottagers in the summer. The 21-year-old has played silky football which has been eye-catchy and has played a pivotal role in the attacking setup of the Canaries.
In 36 appearances in the Championship, Maddison has smashed 13 goals and has registered 7 assists. Besides, his pass completion rate of 86.4% has been quite appealing. Even if Fulham get promoted, the blossoming English starlet would be a galvanizing player for them as he has shown that he has the calibre to play in the top flight of English football.
