Recent reports claim that Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani can be offered to AC Milan on an exchange deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma. This will come as huge blow to Manchester United who were eyeing up a summer move for Cavani along with their local rivals, Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho has been on the lookout for further additions in order to nullify Manchester City’s vast overhaul of world-class talents. So far the case has been won by Pep Guardiola and his men with the Noisy Neighbours dominating the Premier League this season.
The Citizens are close to being crowned as the champions of England just weeks after winning the EFL League Cup trophy. Mourinho has been left far behind on the backboard following the humiliating 2-1 loss to Sevilla at Old Trafford last Tuesday. The Red Devils bowed out of the Champions League with a woeful performance and the expressions on the United fans were evidence of their dissatisfaction with the manager.
Mourinho did quite little to console the United fans with his statements after the match and in the process managed to infuriate them even more.
“That is not the end of the world. I sit in this chair twice in the Champions League and I knock Man United out at home at Old Trafford. I sit in this chair with Porto, Man United out, I sit in this chair with Real Madrid, Man United out. So is not something new for the club and of course being Manchester United manager and losing a Champions League tie at home is a disappointment, obviously.”
While the dust is allowed to settle over Mourinho’s future with the club discussions of future additions should not be stagnated over the issue. Alternate options for Cavani needs to be considered well ahead of the summer transfer window and here are a few the United board should look into.
Robert Lewandowski
The Polish superstar’s name is synonymous with goals and is reportedly being floated around the transfer market. Mourinho is already weighing up an audacious offer for the Bayern Munich number nine who might not agree to a secondary role behind the ambitious Romelu Lukaku.
However, signing him would definitely boost United’s attack to incredible lengths and will pose a heavy contention to Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester City’s Kun Aguero.
Michy Batshuayi
Chelsea already has Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata as their rotational options in the centre-forward position. Batshuayi was forced to find a different club after enduring a season of low playing time.
Salomon Rondon
The West Brom man is stuck in a team who is very close to a relegation drop to the Championship. Rondon is far too good for the second division and deserves a call-up to the big times.
