Sunderland will travel to South East London to take on Millwall in what is set to be a must-win game for them as they look to give themselves some hope of avoiding relegation this season. They are currently sitting rock bottom of the Scottish Premiership standings and are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks which could help them in their quest of saving themselves from the agony of relegation to League One at the end of this campaign. The Black Cats are six points off safety with just 8 league matches to go.
Meanwhile, the Lions are comfortably occupying 12th place in the league table with an outside shot of making into the playoffs this season. They are seven points behind the final playoff spot which is being occupied by Sheffield United, who are in 6th place. Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is expected to opt for a 3-1-4-2 formation and may hand Billy Jones a start in his backline. Jake Clarke-Salter will miss out on the day for being red-carded in their clash versus Middlesbrough last weekend.
The recent history of the fixture makes a grim reading for Sunderland fans as they have just won once in their last six meetings with the South East London outfit. Only time will tell whether the visitors can bag the three points on Saturday.
3-1-4-2 Sunderland Predicted Lineup To Face Millwall
Defence
Lee Camp is expected to resume his duties in the Sunderland goal and he might be protected by a back three of Lamine Kone, John O’Shea and Billy Jones in central defence.
Chris Coleman’s side has conceded a massive 61 goals in 34 league matches and the Sunderland manager will hope that his defenders can keep it tight at the back against the Lions on Saturday.
Midfield
Lee Cattermole will be deployed as a defensive midfielder with Paddy McNair and George Honeyman playing in front of him at the centre of the park. Bryan Oviedo will operate on the left flank while Adam Matthews starts on the right side of the midfield.
They will be responsible to shield their backline while also linking up play in the opposition half to create chances for their front two to feed on.
Attack
The duo of Joel Asoro and Josh Maja will start up top for the Black Cats. Asoro scored against Middlesbrough in their last league outing and will hope to get in on the goal-scoring act once again when he laces up to face the Lions defence on Saturday.
