Wolves forward Benik Afobe wants to extend his stay at the Molineux Stadium with the club almost guaranteed to play football in the Premier League next term. According to recent reports, the Democratic Republic of the Congo international dreams of playing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the top tier of English football next season. The former Arsenal forward has been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks which has helped his club take a commanding lead in the race for the Skybet Championship title.
Afobe has found the back of the net four times in his last four matches and has broken into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven ahead of the out of form Leo Bonatini. It is understood that Wolves have an option to sign the forward permanently this summer when his loan deal comes to an end. Bournemouth signed the 25-year-old striker in the summer of 2016 for a reported fee of £10m.
Afobe has recently addressed his future and was quoted to have said,
“I’ve said this is home to me. We’ve still got eight games to go, those kinds of calls will be between Bournemouth and Wolves and my agent.
“I’ll have to sit down with my family but my dream has always been to play for Wolves in the Premier League so if that’s to go by anything then hopefully that can happen.”
He has featured in 9 matches for the West Midlands outfit this season, scoring 4 goals in the league so far. It has turned out to be a successful loan spell for Wolves as his recent contributions could very well hand them the title ahead of Cardiff City going into the final stretch of the season.
Wolves are currently leading the English Championship by 6 points with a tally of 82 points in 38 matches. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side has recently fallen off the pace in the second tier of English football but are still on the driver’s seat to earn a promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the current season. Second-placed Cardiff City are hot on their heels and could mount a late push for the league title which means that Santo’s side will have to finish the campaign strong if they are to bag the Skybet Championship title.
The addition of Afobe on a permanent transfer will undoubtedly bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League. He has already experienced top-flight football with Arsenal and Bournemouth which will be a huge asset for Wolves if they can secure his signature permanently this summer.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Afobe and whether he ends up making a permanent switch to the Molineux Stadium at the end of the season.
