Former Leeds United target and current Celtic player, Tom Rogic is reportedly not entirely happy with his current state of affairs. After a 10-week spell on the sidelines, Rogic has found it hard to break into the first team after the arrival of Charly Musonda on loan from Chelsea in the January window.
It is also clear that the new terms provided to him for a possible extension is not ideal and the 25-year-old might be planning for a probable exit after the current campaign. Rogic joined the Hoops in the summer of 2013 from Central Coast Mariners and currently holds 120 total appearances for the Scottish Premiership outfit.
He is best suited to the number 10 role judging by his creative skills and the vision to set up his teammates. He has been able to produce bouts of magic for the fans at Celtic Park from time to time which has made him a warm figure to grace the pitch. However, the current season of only 29 appearances, 13 of those as a substitute is not the best look for the Australian.
The injury to his knee is just a remake of the struggle he faced in his primary years with the Premiership leaders. Brendan Rodgers is still not sure of the player’s ability to appear for the full 90 minutes. However, that can be worked upon and should not be in an issue long term.
He has been capped at international level 33 times and is expected to make the Australia national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. A lack of minutes might hurt his chances but getting selected is still highly favoured.
A lucrative deal will be in the talks if he manages to impress on the world stage. We all have seen players get a significant rise in the career ladder after putting in remarkable shifts for their perspective countries in the competition. Alexis Sanchez, James Rodriguez, Mesut Ozil, Luis Suarez to name a few.
Celtic might not have much of a bargaining power in the summer since he will have only a year left on his contract. Valued at just $6m, the Hoops might have to sell him for cheaper if the player is reluctant to appear in a Green and White jersey again.
Leeds United might no longer be in the promotion race having fallen 6 points behind the playoff spots. Maybe they will have to reset the clock in the next campaign and try another time with a fresh set of players. Rogic will be a brilliant signing who can replace the ill-behaved Samuel Saiz.
