Not much has gone well at Arsenal this season as they are currently struggling to qualify for the Champions League and could end this season with nothing to show for. Arsene Wenger’s position at the club may be in jeopardy but the club may also lose some of their star players if they are not able to finish the season strongly.
One such player, who is already linked with an exit is Spanish full-back Hector Bellerin.
Reports earlier in the week suggested that Bellerin was furious with Wenger after being dropped from the starting XI that faced Brighton at the weekend. Arsenal eventually dropped all three points but could end up losing Bellerin, come the end of the season.
A product of La Masia academy in Catalonia, Bellerin joined Arsenal academy in 2011 and took two years to break into the first team under Wenger. He now has 118 Premier League appearances to add to three international appearances in Spain and is one of the most exciting full-backs on show in Europe.
Easily one of the quickest in his role, the 22-year old is an attacking full-back, who loves to take part in build play in the final third. He is not the best crosser out there but is dangerous with his deliveries at times. He is more adept at the ball at his feet, trying to beat defenders and finding his teammates in space inside the box.
He has adjusted well to the needs of the Premier League but his aggressive nature sees him leave space in behind on more than one occasion. But at just 22, he is a serious talent with great potential and it does not come as a surprise Barcelona are interested in bringing him back to Camp Nou this summer.
The Catalan giants spent on Nelson Semedo for the right-back spot last summer and have Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal as backups for this role in the first team. But neither are natural full-backs and adding Bellerin will mean that they have Semedo and the Spaniard fighting for one place in the squad.
This competition will improve both players and the fact that both are around the same age will only push them to fight for a place in the first team.
The fact that Juventus have now given up on Bellerin, thanks to his wages, Barcelona should definitely not miss out on this chance to lure the Arsenal man back to Spain. He started his career there and will not find it easy to reject a chance to play for the Catalan giants again, but do you think Bellerin is the right man for Barcelona?
