Transfer News
As per one of the latest reports by The Sun, Leeds United are perceived to be interested to sign Swansea City’s attacker, Oliver McBurnie. There is no denying that the Whites would be aiming to beef up the quality of their arsenal in the summer. Paul Heckingbottom had worked with McBurnie at Barnsley and rates him very highly and is thus keen to lure him to the Elland Road in the summer.
Fact File & Season So Far
McBurnie emerged through the youth ranks of Bradford City and after a steady developmental process, he paved his way to their senior side. Prior to his move to the Liberty Stadium in the summer of 2015, he spent two loan spells with Chester. The Scottish Under21 international struggled to find game time under his belt at Swansea City and was shipped to Newport County and Bristol Rovers on loan.
In the January transfer window this year, he moved to Barnsley on loan and interestingly, Heckingbottom was the manager of the Tykes at that time. McBurnie has made full use of the opportunities that he has received after his transfer to Oakwell, having scored 6 goals in 9 appearances in the Championship.
Attributes
The 21-year-old is a blossoming youngster with lots of potentials. Predominantly a striker, McBurnie is versatile enough to operate effectively from the left-wing as well as from the left-hand side of the midfield. He is a smart lad and has really impressed at Barnsley despite the fact that Jose Morais’ side are struggling terribly and are set to face the relegation battle.
He has raw pace in his legs and his loan spells with various English clubs have helped him in acclimatizing with English football. McBurnie has the knack to create acres of spaces, has that cutting edge to offer in the final third and has been clinical of late. By no means is he a finished package but given his age, he should be able to polish himself in the coming seasons.
Why Leeds United Need Him?
The Whites lack a quality striker who can find the back of the net on a regular basis. Heckingbottom must be keen to address this issue and no wonder why he has placed McBurnie on his radar. The striker is undoubtedly a very talented starlet and owing to the X factor he possesses, he could be a dazzling signing for the Peacocks in the summer.
