The League One promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers are preparing a move for Everton striker Bassala Sambou next summer. According to recent reports, the Lancashire outfit are eyeing to move for the Toffees forward when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old Hannover born forward has previously played under Tony Mowbray at Coventry City Football Club and has remained on the ex-Sky Blues boss’ radar ever since, despite failing to make an appearance for the Everton senior team so far. However, Sambou is highly rated in some quarters, and with Blackburn close to earning a return to the Skybet Championship at the end of this campaign, Mowbray will be keeping his fingers crossed over the possibility of bringing in the German striker and adding some more firepower to his squad as he prepares for life in the second tier of English football.
Sambou has spent most of his youth career playing for Coventry City before joining Everton on a three-year deal back in the summer of 2016 as the Toffees attempted to fill out their under-23 side with some of the best young talents from the lower leagues of English football. He could flourish with the opportunity to play some regular first-team football at Ewood Park if the potential move goes through in the summer. The Blues of Merseyside will also benefit if Sambou goes out on loan to play football regularly at Blackburn and come back as a better player capable of challenging for a place in the senior side.
The Merseyside outfit are currently sitting in 9th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 37 points in 30 matches. They are a massive six points behind Burnley who are sitting in 7th place with an away match versus Stoke City looming on the horizon.
The departure of Sambou won’t have an effect on Sam Allardyce’s first-team but the Toffees could lose out on a player with massive potential. The German forward has featured in 19 matches in the Premier League 2 for Everton this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists so far.
A temporary loan deal seems like the best solution for all parties as it will help the player gain some vital first-team experience and come back as a stronger player capable of becoming a Premier League starter in the near future. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Sambou and whether he ends up plying his trade at Ewood Park next season.
