Wolves are preparing to launch an audacious bid for AC Milan striker, Andre Silva ahead of their probable promotion the Premier League. The Wanderers have not tied down the services of Leo Bonatini permanently and when he leaves for Al-Hilal in the summer the Championship side will need a proven goal scorer to lead the attack.
Silva arrived at San Siro last summer following his impressive 21 goal season with FC Porto. He also got to showcase his talents for the Portugal national team 18 times and has been dubbed to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir. The five-time Balon d’Or winner was quoted, “When I retire, Portugal will be in good hands because they have already found a great striker: Andre Silva.”
However, the 22-year-old’s meteoric rise has crumbled in recent times with the striker failing to score even once in the Serie A this season. He has managed 8 in other competitions and might already have fallen out of favour with Gennaro Gattuso.
Silva is still young and has the years ahead of him to follow up on his own promises. It is quite evident that the Portuguese international will have to either start delivering with Milan or will have to find a different club in the near future. The Premier League will be a challenging escape, especially with a team who will delegate all the heavy scoring responsibilities to him.
Wolves have looked like clear winners of the EFL Championship ever since the season started. They are currently perched on top with an 11-point lead and it looks like they will finish the campaign there and win the automatic promotion to top-tier English football. Nuno Santo’s men came away with the convincing 3-0 win over Sheffield United last week and have acquired Benik Afobe on loan deal for the remainder of the season. Bonatini started out the season in blistering form but is currently struggling to find the back of the net which has forced Santo to find the second option in Afobe.
When the duo eventually makes the exit, Silva’s services will be key in surviving a season in the Premier League. Rafa Mir will also be available from the bench alongside. However, will Silva agree to the switch?
Wolves have already seen their £34m get rejected in January and they are prepared to make a beefed up offer. Silva will also be tempted by a lucrative deal for himself and the promise of excelling in the most watched league in the world.
