Wolverhampton Wanderers played hosts to Norwich City at the Molineux Stadium on Wednesday night looking to bag all three points which would take them one step closer to the Skybet Championship title. Nuno Espírito Santo opted for an attacking 3-4-3 formation and it worked wonders as the home side took an early lead through a Jamal Lewis own goal. The Wolves doubled their lead in the 24th-minute courtesy of a header by Alfred N’Diaye but the Canaries responded just two minutes later, via a Christoph Zimmermann header from close range. The West Midlands outfit took a narrow 2-1 lead into the half-time break.
Both teams battled hard in the second half and Norwich City fought back to grab a late equaliser in injury time courtesy of a Nelson Oliviera strike. The match ended with both teams sharing the spoils in a highly entertaining 2-2 draw.
Let’s shed some light on how each Wolves player fared on the night.
GK: John Ruddy – 5/10
He hardly had anything to do in the game but made some good saves when called upon. Norwich scored two goals on the night which won’t delight him.
CB: Ryan Bennett – 5/10
He gave away some silly fouls and failed to deal with the danger of the Norwich attackers.
CB: Conor Coady – 6/10
He had a good game at the heart of the Wolves defence and won some 50-50 duels. However, conceding two goals during the contest won’t make him happy.
CB: Willy Boly – 5/10
He gave away the corner that led to the Canaries equaliser in injury time.
RM: Matt Doherty – 7/10
He won some free-kicks in the opposition half and created some good chances going forward.
CM: Rúben Neves – 6/10
The Wolves midfielder created a few chances early on but his impact on the game faded as the game progressed. He was also guilty of being cautioned for a bad foul in the first half.
CM: Alfred N’Diaye – 8/10
Arguably, he was Wolves’ best player on the night. He scored with a good header to double his team’s lead in the first half but unfortunately for him, the home side couldn’t see out the victory.
LM: Barry Douglas – 7/10
He had a lively game on the left flank and did well to create some chances for his teammates in the final third. He came close with two of his attempts in the first half and also played a good cross into the box which led to the N’Diaye goal in the 25th minute.
RW: Wander Helder Costa – 6/10
He linked up well with his teammates early on but fell victim to an injury which led to him being substituted at half-time.
ST: Diogo Jose Jota – 6/10
He was wasteful in front of goal and failed to score the third goal for Wolves which would have ensured their victory on the night.
LW: Ivan Cavaleiro – 6/10
He also had a tough day in front of goal and was unable to score the decisive goal which ultimately cost his team two points.
Substitutes:
CM: Romain Saiss – 6/10
He came off the bench at half-time but was unable to make a meaningful impact on the game.
ST: Benik Afobe – 5/10
He was a frustrated figure after coming on for the final 30 minutes of the contest. He gave away cheap fouls during the last 10 minutes which invited Norwich to push on for an equaliser.
CM: Morgan Gibbs-White – 6/10
He had a good game after coming off the bench and tested the Norwich keeper with his attempt in the second half.
