West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for Trabzonspor midfielder Okay Yokuslu. According to recent reports, the Turkish midfielder is being touted to make a switch to the Hawthorns after the Baggies’ recent struggles in the midfield during this Premier League campaign.
Grzegorz Krychowiak is set to return to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this campaign after his season-long loan spell comes to an end, while veteran Gareth Barry’s contract with the club will run out in the summer making him a free agent. Both James Morrison and Chris Brunt have been loyal servants of the club and have one year options in their current contracts, but it’s still uncertain whether Claudio Yacob will remain at the West Midlands outfit beyond this season too.
It is being reported that the 23-year-old has already been a target of former West Brom boss Tony Pulis, who had a bid in the region of €8m rejected by Trabzonspor last summer. It remains to be seen whether they go back for the player next summer as they look to make a fresh start to their new campaign in the hope of a brighter future.
Some sources are claiming that Trabzonspor are currently going through some financial turmoil and it is understood that they’re considering parting ways with Yokuslu if his potential sale can raise some much-needed funds. Hence, a move in the summer looks like a real possibility for any of his potential suitors.
The Baggies are currently in 20th place in the Premier League standings and are in real danger of getting relegated this season. The West Midlands outfit are in a do or die battle where they are required to pick up some favourable results in the next few weeks to try and have a chance of saving themselves from the agony of relegation to the Skybet Championship at the end of the season. However, whether they ply their trade in the Premier League or in the second tier of English football, the addition of Yokuslu will undoubtedly bolster Alan Pardew’s midfield options at the Hawthorns. The 23-year-old has made 23 appearances for Trabzonspor this term, scoring a goal and providing one assist in all competitions.
The Turkish midfielder is also highly versatile and can operate as a central midfielder or play in central defence which makes him an integral asset for any of his potential suitors. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Yokuslu and whether he ends up making a switch to the West Midlands in the near future.
