Borussia Dortmund have officially launched an offer to secure the services of FC Girondins Bordeaux winger Malcom. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga club has tabled a bid for the talented Brazilian amidst interest from Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur. It was reported earlier this month that Bayern had already made an approach to sign 21-year-old and now, Dortmund has done the same with both Bundesliga clubs stealing a march on Spurs, who secured a move for Lucas Moura in January after their enquiries for Malcom came to a standstill.
However, it is believed that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was set to make another move in pursuit of the winger but has now fallen behind in the race to sign him. Some sources are claiming that Bordeaux are resigned to parting ways with Malcom at the end of the current campaign, but are asking for a fee in excess of £50m for their prized asset, who has found the back of the net eight times in Ligue 1 this season.
In a recent interview, the Brazilian midfielder addressed his future and was quoted to have said,
“Yes, there was a promise that I will be negotiating in June.
“I will choose the team, and Bordeaux will let me go. I already said that I would have liked to leave this winter to meet new challenges.
“But I must also remember that Bordeaux helped me a lot. I have given my word to Bordeaux that I will continue (with the club) to be able to have more time to choose my future club.
“These next three or four months will make a big difference.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently in 4th place in the Premier League standings, just two points above fifth-placed Chelsea with just 10 league matches remaining this term. The North London outfit are hoping to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for the next campaign and has recently secured a last-ditch victory at Selhurst Park courtesy of a Harry Kane header against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
However, they are still a staggering 17 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some reinforcements in the summer to help them in their quest of bridging the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The addition of Malcom will undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s attacking options going forward and at 21, he has immense potential to develop his game and become a Premier League star in a few years time.
Malcom is highly versatile and can operate on either wing or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal fit for Spurs. He has made 28 appearances for the French club this term, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists in all competitions. Spurs should definitely go in with an offer for the 21-year-old next summer if they are serious about challenging in four different competitions next season. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Brazilian and whether he ends up moving to North London in the near future.
