Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Norwich City midfielder James Maddison. According to recent reports in the English media, the Spurs are eyeing a move for the Coventry born midfielder in the summer. The 21-year-old has spent six months of the last campaign on loan at Aberdeen where he put in some eye-catching displays at the Pittodrie Stadium and scored a famous winner versus Rangers when he smashed in a last-gasp goal to bag all three points for his team. Maddison has also been in excellent form for Norwich City in the English Championship. He has found the back of the net 9 times and provided 8 assists in 32 matches for the Canaries in all competitions this season.
Some sources are claiming that the north London side could target Ryan Sessegnon and Malcom along with James Maddison in the summer after bringing in Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window last month. The Evening Standard caught up with a Tottenham Hotspur club expert, Tom Collomosse and he was quoted to have said, “Spurs are also working hard to find a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, who turns 31 in July and is susceptible to injury. James Maddison, of Norwich, is one to keep an eye on.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are slowly preparing for life without Dembele and it seems like they are lining up a move for the England youth international in the summer transfer window.
Maddison’s dazzling displays in this campaign has helped the Canaries climb to 13th place in the English Championship standings, 14 points above the drop zone. Although it is highly likely that they won’t have enough in the tank to qualify for the playoffs this term, yet the Norwich City are still having a strong campaign in the second tier of English football. The potential departure of someone of Maddison’s quality could turn out to be detrimental to their chances of a promotion push for next season.
However, the money generated from the possible big-money sale of the 21-year-old midfielder could enable Norwich boss Daniel Farke to strengthen some of the other areas of his squad.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in 5th place in the Premier League table, just two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool with just 13 league matches remaining this term. The Spurs are trying their best to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for next season. However, they are a massive 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City. The potential addition of Maddison in the summer could go a long way in helping the north London outfit bridge the gap between themselves and the Citizens going into the next campaign. It remains to be seen whether Pochettino’s side are successful in pursuit of the Skybet Championship midfield star in the near future.
