Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Hamburger CV centre-forward Jann-Fiete Arp. According to a report by Talksport, Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs are plotting a cut-price offer for the Bundesliga starlet next summer. It is believed that the Premier League side could land the Hamburg starlet Jann-Fiete Arp for as little £8.8m this summer but might face strong competition from RB Leipzig in pursuit of his signature. The 18-year-old, who has found the back of the net twice in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, is on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Hamburg have struggled in the first half of their campaign this term and are in real danger of getting relegated from the Bundesliga, having picked up just 17 points in 21 league matches. However, their troubles could give rise to an ideal opportunity for Tottenham as, according to a report in Bild, Arp’s imminent new deal with Hamburg is likely to include a relegation clause. This would mean that any of his potential suitors could buy the teenage striker for just £8.8m if Hamburg gets relegated from the top tier of German football.
On the other hand, the youngster’s price will be far more expensive if his club can beat the drop but even then, it won’t stop Tottenham from putting an offer in for the player.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in 5th place in the Premier League table, just a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea with just 12 league matches remaining this term. The Spurs are trying their best to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for next season. However, they are a massive 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some reinforcements in the summer to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the next few years.
The addition of someone of the immense potential of Arp could turn out to be a shrewd move by Spurs as the player can develop into a future superstar for north Londoners.
The teenage wonder-kid is highly versatile and can operate as centre-forward up top, as a secondary striker or play in the number 10 position. The 18-year-old has represented the German national team at u15, u16 and u17 levels during his career and has scored 15 goals in 17 matches for the U17s at the international stage. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Jann-Fiete Arp and whether Spurs will be able to successfully lure him to north London.
