Tottenham bolstered their top 4 hopes with a clinical 2-0 win over Manchester United at Wembley and further extended their lead over Arsenal to 6. A goal inside the first 15 seconds from Eriksen and a Phil Jones own goal meant Spurs recorded a victory over United for the 3rd season running.
A long ball from Vertonghen right after kickoff was headed on by Kane into Alli’s path whose shot was deflected and found its way to Eriksen who had the simplest of finishes. After a beautiful passing phase, Trippier played a gorgeous low ball which was turned in by Jones at the near post. It was all Spurs from thereon as Lloris was called into action just twice in the first half.
The second half started as the first ended, with Spurs dominating possession and dictating the play with ease. Lloris’s net was barely troubled except one solid save off Lukaku. Spurs did create a few half chances but Kane, in particular, uncharacteristically fluffed his lines. However, Pochettino will have no complaints after an excellent performance from his men.
Hugo Lloris- 7.5/10
Made 3 very good saves to deny Lingard, Martial and Lukaku.
Kieran Trippier- 8/10
Excellent performance from the former Burnley right back. Fully enjoyed himself in the space Ashley Young left behind and made the second goal happen with an exquisite cross.
Davinson Sanchez- 7.5/10
Held his own against a strong United attack and rarely got outclassed.
Jan Vertonghen- 8/10
Excellent aerially and defensively overall. His composure and superb passing helped Spurs a lot, particularly in the first goal.
Ben Davies- 7/10
Very solid defensively, and made a crucial tackle on Martial. Had a well-struck shot saved but wasn’t as adventurous as Trippier.
Eric Dier- 7/10
Stuck to his job as he recovered any loose balls, and made a stunning pass to Alli on 22 minutes. Could’ve scored but headed over.
Mousa Dembele- 8/10
Got an early booking but absolutely dominated Pogba. Classy on the ball as always and strong in the tackle.
Dele Alli- 7.5/10
Caused havoc with his movement in and around the box and the first goal came after his shot was deflected. Got a needless booking for a cynical challenge on Sanchez.
Christian Eriksen- 9/10
Put in a masterclass, and scored his 50th goal for Spurs. Made brilliant passes throughout the game and was the glue to a vibrant Spurs performance.
Heung-Min Son- 6.5/10
Not at his very best but put in a hard-working shift. Drew a lot of fouls as well.
Harry Kane- 8/10
A proper centre-forward display from Kane, as he did everything but score Held up the ball brilliantly and worked for his team and got others into play. Won the header leading up to the goal and played a sublime pass to Alli to put him in.
