Rangers are looking to sign their on-loan midfielder Sean Goss on an extended deal next summer when his loan spell runs out at the Ibrox Stadium next summer. According to recent reports, the Gers are willing to extend his stay in Glasgow and could weigh their options this summer. The 22-year-old midfielder has quickly become a key member of Graeme Murty’s side after making a temporary switch on loan from Queens Park Rangers in January.
Queens Park Rangers have previously revealed that Goss will return to the Skybet Championship side at the end of the season but the Light Blues will consider their options in the summer in an effort to extend his stay in Scottish football. When asked to address Goss’ future at the Glaswegian club, Rangers manager Graeme Murty was quoted to have said, “Possibly,”
“He is one of a number of players that we are looking at.
“As we have always said, the evolution of the squad never stops and we are always assessing people as to where they would fit in to what we do.
“What I will say, and the positive part of it, is that he has made a really good start and he has shown that he understands how we want to play and the pre-requisites of playing for Rangers at Ibrox. He looks quite comfortable doing that.
“QPR have said ‘you are not having him, keep your hands off’. But football situations like that tend to be quite fluid, I find.”
Goss was the first signing that Rangers made during the January transfer window which was followed by the arrivals of Jamie Murphy, Russell Martin, Jason Cummings and Greg Docherty at Ibrox.
Rangers are currently occupying the second place in the Scottish Premiership table with a tally of 55 points in 28 league outings with just three points separating them from third-placed Aberdeen. The Teddy Bears are still a massive 9 points behind crosstown rivals and league leaders Celtic going into the final ten matches of the season.
The potential addition of Goss could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business for Rangers if they can convince QPR to extend his stay in Scotland. He has made seven appearances this season and has scored once while also providing one assist in all competitions. He is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions. He can play on the left wing as a full-back or as an out-and-out winger and can also feature in central midfield if required which makes him an ideal asset under Graeme Murty at the Ibrox.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Goss and whether he ends up extending his stay with the Light Blues beyond this season.
