Labelled as a person suffering from dementia, Jose Mourinho, apparently the “little man”, according to Antonio Conte, hosted Chelsea at the home of Manchester United. A tense atmosphere was guaranteed but the day and the sunshine were perfect for the game.
United and Chelsea started out cautiously but Chelsea lead through a superb counter finished off by Willian. The Red Devils equalised some-time later with a tidy combination leading to Lukaku’s goal. Jesse Lingard sealed the win with a glancing header to get at the end of a perfectly timed cross from the Belgian striker as Jose Mourinho got his revenge for the 1-0 loss against the defending champions earlier this season in the Premier League.
Here’s how the reds have been rated after a magnificent win:-
GK: David De Gea – 4/10
Not his day today as he conceded the opening goal badly and should have done better. He also let slip a few balls directed at him as the game went on. Just a bad game for the Spaniard and one can be sure that he will bounce back.
RB: Antonio Valencia – 8/10
He was responsible, tidy and his side of the field looked solid. CAPTAIN!
CB: Chris Smalling – 7/10
Held firmly against Morata and dealt with him well on most occasions. Didn’t disappoint today.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7/10
Complimented Smalling perfectly and held his own. He seems to have improved a lot and it finally looks like he can be trusted.
LB: Ashley Young – 5/10
Wasted a lot of opportunities and wasn’t productive at all. Luke Shaw might win his place back if performances like these go on.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 10/10
Dominant and outstanding. He didn’t let Chelsea breathe easy at all. Won all aerial duels and won-back the ball 15 times. Man of the match!
CM: Scott McTominay – 9/10
It was a huge game for the youngster and arguably his biggest task today was to man-mark Eden Hazard and he did it extremely well. Didn’t hold-back and didn’t let the players beat him easily. Fantastic.
LAM: Paul Pogba – 7.5/10
He proved again today as to how important he can be for this United team when the tactics are right. Stepped up immensely well in the second half and put it a sublime shift.
FW: Alexis Sanchez – 6/10
Couldn’t really get going and he needs to get his form back. He couldn’t do much due to the tactical limitations as well today.
FW: Anthony Martial – 7/10
Got the neatest of touches to set up Lukaku’s goal and his work-rate looked healthy and impressive today. He was substituted in the second half but he did his bit.
FW: Romelu Lukaku – 9/10
He was sensational today. He had a lot of critics to answer and he did so brilliantly. He took the goal well and created a chance for Lingard with some sweet foot-work.
Substitutes:-
AM: Jesse Lingard – 7/10
Took his goal really well and he exactly did what he was sent to do.
CB: Eric Bailly – N/A
