No transfer rumour should be ruled out right? Last summer we saw Neymar depart Camp Nou on a record-breaking transfer fee to Paris Saint-Germain in hopes of winning the Balon d’Or. And now another unlikely transfer deal is brewing up which might turn out to be true – Real Madrid are ready to break the bank to sign Manchester United superstar, Paul Pogba.
If you are a United fan, the news might come as a shock to you but in the present market where players are being offered millions of dollars like they were pennies in a jar, anything is possible.
The Frenchman is quite clearly happy to make the return to his former side from Juventus. Having developed himself into a marquee player in the Serie A, the fans at Old Trafford welcomed the 24-year-old with great pomp on a £89m deal.
Pogba’s arrival along with the appointment of Jose Mourinho sparked the clubs resurgence to title-contending status and reappearing in the Champions League.
However, United are nowhere close to their “Noisy Neighbours” in the league and have fallen 16 points behind. Their European campaign is still alive but the team still does not match up to the likes of PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona. In all honesty, Pep Guardiola has a better chance of breaking into the final four of the Champions League rather than the Portuguese tactician and this might be a cause for concern for a player like Pogba.
The French international is ambitious and wants to win the biggest trophies. Judging by the past two seasons, who else can provide him with a better opportunity of winning the Champions League other than the two time consecutive reigning champions.
The Galacticos are struggling in the current campaign but their future is still as bright as it was last year. But Zinedine Zidane is dealing with a few problems including the mental fatigue the players are going through.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s terms with the club have also soured over the past few weeks and the five-time Balon d’Or winner is looking to make a return to the Premier League. While Barcelona are bolstering their own squad ranks with big money signings, Galactico fans are just witnessing the potential exit of one of their best players to ever grace the pitch of Santiago Bernabeu.
It is fair to say that the title has slipped out of their hands and winning the Champions League trophy cannot be guaranteed. Madrid needs to prepare for the possibility of losing their best player in a shock transfer and should snap up the opportunity to sign another superstar in Pogba.
Reports emerged earlier this month that Florentino Perez might be looking to offload Toni Kroos if an agreeable bid does come in to make way for Neymar. But with the Brazilian just on his first season with the Parisians maybe the Los Blancos president has shifted his attention on Pogba.
The entire ordeal turns out to be confusing as Pogba and Neymar play in completely different positions. Does the Madrid boss just want an overhaul of the world’s best players or is he just equally baffled over the possibility of losing quite possibly the best player the club has ever had?
