Chelsea are plotting a move for Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling next summer. According to recent reports in the English media, the Blues have made the ex-Liverpool winger one of their top transfer targets for the summer. The west London club are reportedly eager to pounce on the Citizens’ winger if Eden Hazard departs the club in favour of a switch to the Spanish capital. The Galacticos are keen on pouncing for the Chelsea star’s signature as they look to add to their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Some sources in the Spanish media has claimed that the Blues are ready to make a move for Sterling if Hazard signs for the La Liga giants in the summer. The English speedster has been in sensational form this season for City and has scored quite a few match-winners to help his side to the top of the Premier League table. The 23-year-old has made 33 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring 19 goals and creating 10 assists across all competitions.
Sterling has caught the eye with some dazzling performances for City this term and has been successful in securing a regular starting place in Guardiola’s squad. He could end up winning the Premier League title at the end of the current season and it is understood that City would be reluctant to let him leave without a fight. However, the Blues of Manchester also has a replacement lined up if Sterling decides to opt for a move to Stamford Bridge with Guardiola being a huge admirer of Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table, a massive 19 points behind league leaders Manchester City going into Monday’s night game versus Watford at Vicarage Road. Antonio Conte’s men have fallen off the pace in recent weeks due to their lack of firepower up top. The addition of Sterling will definitely add to their attacking options at Stamford Bridge.
However, with growing concerns over Hazard’s long-term future at the club, the Blues will be in dire need of someone of the calibre of the Belgian superstar. The jury is still out if Sterling will be able to fill the boots of the Belgian in west London, but going by his record this season, he can be an ideal asset at Stamford Bridge if the Blues can lure him to make a switch to London next summer.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Sterling and whether there are any truths to these rumours regarding Chelsea’ s interest in the player.
