Yet another dominating performance from the Citizens has handed Pep Guardiola his first trophy in England as his side put three past Arsenal, who had no answers to the league leaders in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in the first half as goals from Vincent Kompany and David Silva put the game beyond the Gunners, who never looked like troubling Manchester City on the night.
The Spanish mastermind lifted his 22nd trophy as a manager in Europe as City bounced back from their slip up in the FA Cup with a silverware just a week late. There was not much Arsenal could do as City were on song for the most game, leaving Wenger still in search for his first League Cup trophy and here are the player ratings for the winners in this tie:
Manchester City Players Rated And Slated
Claudio Bravo (5):
Almost gifted Aubameyang a goal in the second half and was showing shades of the previous season, that saw Pep spend on Ederson. Lucky to keep a clean sheet. However, picked up the assist for Aguero’s opener with a straight ball over the top.
Kyle Walker (6):
Had very little to do at the back and was a constant presence in attack as he dominated his side of the field for most of the tie.
Vincent Kompany (8):
Gave Aubameyang a lot to think about, getting the better of him with his strength and positioning before turning in a shot from Gundogan, to take City 2-0 up in the game.
Nicolas Otamendi (6):
Was happy to sit back and keep the ball rolling as he had very little to do all night.
Danilo (7):
Was a constant presence in the final third, ready to take on the Arsenal defenders. Set up a couple of chances and never allowed the likes of Ozil beyond him, helping his side to an easy clean sheet. Got the assist for Silva’s goal.
Fernandinho (6):
Was good with his interceptions and passing early in the game but was caught out on a couple of occasions before he picked up an unfortunate injury and was subbed off.
Ilkay Gundogan (7):
Played well in the midfield to control the game and dropped deep when Fernandinho was subbed off, putting in a solid performance in both roles and helping his side to a victory. Picked up the assist for Kompany’s goal.
David Silva (8):
His passes were too hot to handle for Arsenal on the night and his goal sealed Pep’s first trophy with Manchester City.
Kevin de Bruyne (7):
Was involved in almost every City attack and though not at his best, still got the better of most Arsenal midfielders.
Leroy Sane (7):
His pace and direct approach to the game constantly troubled Arsenal. Unlucky not to find the back of the net.
Sergio Aguero (7):
Scored his first goal in a cup final and for a winning cause with some intelligent play and was also constantly harassing the Arsenal backline, which could have conceded a lot more.
Substitutes:
Bernardo Silva (6):
Came on for Fernandinho and did well to see out the game.
Gabriel Jesus (N/A):
The confrontation with Jack Wilshere was probably his biggest contribution to the game.
Phil Foden (N/A)
