Nottingham Forest supporters are hoping that their club can sign Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback on a permanent transfer next summer. According to recent reports, the English midfielder has wasted no time in making an impression in just five games into his loan spell at the City Ground. Some sources are claiming that Forest fans are eager to see their team sign Colback on a permanent basis once his six-month loan expires at the end of the season.
Colback chose to make a switch to Nottingham in order to link up with former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka there during the January transfer window after being frozen out at Tyneside. It has just taken him five matches to make an impression with many Nottingham Forest supporters praying that his loan deal can become a permanent one in the summer. He put in a brilliant performance for the Tricky Trees in their emphatic 5-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday which has left Forest fans gasping for more.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Colback has no future with the Magpies and maybe a permanent switch in the summer is best for all parties involved. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the 28-year-old English midfielder.
The Tyneside club are currently occupying 15th place in the Premier League table with a tally of 29 points in 28 league matches. Rafael Benitez’s team still finds themselves just two points above the drop zone and are in real danger of suffering the agony of being demoted to the English Championship at the end of the season. They are in dire need to bring in some new faces during the summer transfer period in their quest to push on and improve their league performance in the next campaign.
The potential departure of Colback could deplete their squad depth but if they can buy a suitable replacement using the money generated from his sale, then they should be fine ahead of the new campaign as they look to close the gap to the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in the coming years. It is clearly evident from the first half of this campaign that Rafael Benitez does not fancy playing Colback at St. James Park so a permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest during the off-season might be the best move for all parties.
Colback has made 5 appearances in the Championship for the Tricky Trees and has also featured in 3 matches in the Premier League 2 for the Magpies but is yet to score so far this season. It remains to be seen whether Aitor Karanka’s side can convince the Tyneside outfit to part ways with their prized asset in the near future.
