Liverpool are looking to secure the services of AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker next summer and according to recent reports, the Reds have been handed a big boost with the Brazilian revealing that a move to Anfield is his ‘top priority’. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to bolster his goalkeeping options after both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has failed to impress with their performances this season.
Some sources in Brazil are now claiming that the 25-year-old favours a switch to Merseyside even though Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in his talents. The Brazil international has kept 14 clean sheets in 33 matches for AS Roma in all competitions this season.
He has put in some match-winning displays for the Serie A giants during this campaign and is currently keeping Manchester City’s Ederson out of the Brazilian national team’s starting eleven. It was recently revealed that the Italian club wanted to increase his release clause to €90m by making him sign a new and improved contract. Only time will tell whether his move to Anfield will come to fruition next summer with Roma only looking to sanction a big money move for the player.
The Merseyside giants are currently occupying 3rd place in the Premier League table after securing a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to West Ham United on Saturday. The Reds find themselves just above Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fourth place with a two-point gap between the two teams at the moment.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are a staggering 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The addition of Alisson would go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The five-time European champions need a top-class keeper if they are to challenge for silverware next season.
The Liverpool defence has been leaky, to say the least during this campaign. Liverpool’s goalkeeping duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has conceded 32 goals in 28 Premier League matches. The acquisition of Alisson could be a significant upgrade over the duo in what is expected to be another extremely competitive Premier League season next term. The Brazilian has a wealth of experience in Italy and Brazil but might need time to settle into English football. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Alisson and whether the Reds are able to convince AS Roma to part ways with their prized asset.
