Jurgen Klopp’s men are closing in on the 2nd place in the league points table but they will know that they are a long way away from fighting for the Premier League title even next season. They are playing an exciting brand of football and the German manager’s recruitment policy is finally bearing fruit.
Most of his recent signings have come good this season but Klopp is still adamant to improve on his squad before the start of the next season. This has seen him linked with some exciting stars recently but one name now doing the rounds is David Brooks.
The 20-year old, who currently plays for Championship outfit Sheffield United, broke into the Welsh national team just last year, thanks to his impressive performances at Bramall Lane since late last season. He already has two caps for his national side and has made 19 Championship appearances to date, where he has two goals and three assists to his name, all of which have come this season.
An offensive midfielder, who can also play as a support striker or as a lone striker, the youngster is a gifted footballer with great technique and understanding of the game. He is an excellent dribbler and has pace which is hard to mark, while his decision making, at such a tender age, makes him a more dangerous player.
His twists and turns in the middle of the park along with his ability to set up chances for his side have all been consistently evident in his time under Chris Wilder this season and it does not come as a surprise that clubs from the top flight are now interested in his services.
Having started his youth career at Manchester City, he is not too fazed by the top flight and reports claim that Mauricio Pochettino is convinced that he is a star for the future and wants him in his side. It is suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks with the Blades over a £10m move for the youngster in the summer.
However, Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the Welsh talent and are also expected to make a move at the end of the season. The Reds have some exciting talents in their academy, that are right up there with the best in the country. Brooks fits the bill well and will be a huge coup for the club.
Pochettino’s willingness to give youngsters a run in the first team might tempt him to move to London but it is reported that he will be sent back on loan to Bramall Lane next season, even if he makes a move, which only makes him a long-term option. So should Liverpool rival Spurs for his signature?
