Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has revealed his desire to win “many titles” and wants to stay at the club for “years to come”. The Brazilian striker has been in sensational form for the Reds this season and has caught the eye with some dazzling displays at Anfield so far. His current contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2020 but Jurgen Klopp could look to offer him an improved contract in order to ensure that he stays at the club for the coming years.
Firmino is yet to hold talks with the club over a new deal but sees himself playing for the Merseysiders in the next few years. The Brazil international sealed a move to Merseyside in the summer of 2015 when ex-Kop boss Brendan Rodgers secured his services for £29m from Hoffenheim. He struggled initially to adapt to the fast pace and intensity of the Premier League but has emerged as an outstanding talent under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp. The German boss has shown faith in his ability and provided him with a platform to shine at Anfield in this campaign.
The 26-year-old has repaid the faith shown in his ability by scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 appearances this season across all competitions. In a recent interview, he was quoted to have said, “Liverpool are one of the greats in Europe and being able to be part of the history of such a great club is gratifying to me.
“I work hard every day to give my best and I believe that the fans, the coaching staff and the board recognise my delivery by wearing that shirt.
“I’m very happy here at Liverpool and I do not see myself out of that club for years to come.
“I believe I am living one of the best phases of my career and I owe much to the trust that the club has placed in me from the beginning.
“I feel very good here in Liverpool. I am very adapted to the city, the club, and the warmth I receive from the fans makes me even happier with the work we are producing.
“And all this support makes me even more willing to conquer great things wearing the shirt of Liverpool.”
The Merseysiders are currently sitting in 4th place in the Premier League standings after being denied a victory at the death in their 2-2 home draw versus Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s side find themselves just above Chelsea, who are in fifth place with a point separating the two teams at the moment. However, both clubs have played a game less than their top 4 rivals with Klopp’s side preparing for a clash with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium while Chelsea takes on West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.
If the Reds are to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years, it remains essential for them to keep hold of their star players. Liverpool should tie Firmino up on a long-term contract which might give them a platform to build for a bigger and brighter future. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Brazilian star and whether Liverpool decides to offer him a new and improved contract in the coming months.
