Liverpool are getting closer to securing a deal for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas. According to recent reports in the Spanish press, the Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas has received an offer to make a switch to Liverpool at the end of the season. It is believed that the Reds are set to overhaul their goalkeeping options next summer with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both failing to cut the mustard at Anfield this season. Karius was able to secure a starting berth in place of Mignolet in recent weeks but neither of them has been able to find any kind of consistency this term which has made their long-term future uncertain at the Merseyside club.
Some sources in Spain have claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side is eager to recruit Los Blancos’ Navas, who is likely to depart the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium when the transfer window reopens in the summer. The Galacticos are set to part ways with the Costa Rica international with potential deals for David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois in the works behind the scenes. Navas made a switch to the Spanish capital from Levante in the summer of 2014 following his heroics for his nation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Since joining Zinedine Zidane’s side, he has helped the Spanish giants win back-to-back Champions League titles as well as dethrone their rivals Barcelona to become the La Liga champions.
It has also been revealed recently that the goalkeeper is not interested in making a switch abroad and is now concentrating on fighting for his place in Zinedine Zidane’s squad. Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently in 3rd place in the Premier League standings after securing a comfortable victory away at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night. They are sitting just above Chelsea, who are in the fourth spot with just goal difference separating the two teams.
One of the major problems for Liverpool this season has been their leaky defence which has conceded 29 goals in 25 league matches. The Reds are desperately trying to sort out their defensive shortcomings as evidenced by the big-money arrival of Virgil Van Dijk in the January transfer window.
A change in goalkeeper could boost their chances of mounting a title challenge next season and also, bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. It remains to be seen if the Merseyside club are successful in pursuit of Keylor Navas, who has conceded 22 goals in 23 matches this term in all competitions while also earning seven clean sheets in the process.
