Latest reports in England are claiming that Thorgan Hazard is being targeted by Leicester City. The foxes were less than impressed with the stunts of Riyad Mahrez on the deadline day last month and are planning a future without the winger. Mahrez was subject to a £60 million bid but Leicester were holding out for a fee in the region of £90 million. The incredulous demand saw the move collapse but the Algerian winger could be packing his bags come June.
This would mean that Leicester will need a player to replace the winger and they have targeted Thorgan Hazard of Borussia Monchengladbach. Hazard has already played in England in his unsuccessful spell for Chelsea. Thorgan moved to Chelsea back in 2012 and stayed in the club till 2015. However, in his three-year spell at the club, he failed to make his mark at the club and could never make the cut.
His loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach did earn him a few admirers and in February 2015 Thorgan completed a permanent transfer to the German club. He has gone on to make 134 appearances for them scoring 30 goals in the process while assisting 31 and has proven himself to be a good player. He can play across any position in the final third and has expressed his desire to return to England one day. “The Bundesliga is a good championship and for now, I want to stay here. In the future maybe I will be in England again. I hope I can end my career in Belgium but at the moment I don’t think about the end of my career.”
As for the Foxes, Leicester City’s fairytale grasped the attention of the entire world in the 2015-16 season. From being threatened by relegation in the 2014-15 season, Claudio Ranieri’s side went on to an incredible title win the next season as the world stood to watch in amazement.
Winning the Premier League changed the club overnight. They had become one of the English sides to represent Europe, they were linked with big-name signings and most importantly they were being referred to as defending champions. As several big names began to make their way to the club, Leicester grew in stature.
As Ranieri made way for Craig Shakespeare, the influx of new players continued with the club optimistic of another strong season in England’s top flight. Shakespeare who took charge of the club last season after title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri was sacked unceremoniously in February, led the foxes to a twelfth place finish last season. He has since been replaced by Claude Puel who has done an excellent job at the King Power Stadium and adding Hazard to their arsenal will only make the team stronger.
