Hull City are plotting a move for Scunthorpe United winger Hakeeb Adelakun in the summer. According to recent reports in the English media, the Tigers are among a whole of hosts of clubs which includes Crystal Palace and Derby County who are chasing the talented youngster’s signature. The Irons declined a deadline day offer from Hull City for the tricky winger who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Scunthorpe wanted to keep hold of their prized asset even though he had less than six months remaining on his contract as they thought that the winger’s contribution will be crucial in their hunt for an automatic promotion in League One.
The forward has found the back of the net four times while providing 12 assists this season which makes him the second best goal provider in the League One. The 21-year-old is highly versatile and can operate on either flank. His ability to play in a number of positions across the forward line has turned out to be a key asset for manager Graham Alexander in their push for promotion. Adelakun has been in sensational form for the Irons in League One but the club was reluctant to part ways with him in the January transfer window even though it meant that they would lose him for free in the summer.
It is believed that there has been a contract standoff between Scunthorpe United and the player’s representatives which leaves the door open for the winger to walk away for free next summer with potential suitors paying a cut-price compensation fee.
Graham Alexander’s side are set to offer him a new long-term contract with improved terms before the end of the season with the hope that he will pen a new deal which will extend his stay at Glanford Park.
Meanwhile, Hull City are currently in 22nd place in the Skybet Championship with a tally of 26 points after 30 league matches. The Tigers are flirting with disaster and are still 3 points away from safety. Nigel Adkins’ side faces the possibility of suffering the agony of relegation to League One in the coming months so the potential addition of Adelakun would be a welcome asset as he would add goals to their side that might help them push for an automatic promotion in the next campaign.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Hakeeb Adelakun and whether Hull City are able to fend off stiff competition in pursuit of his signature.
