Nottingham Forest are set to secure the services of ex Watford midfielder Ben Watson in the coming days, who is currently a free agent. According to the Daily Mail, the former Premier League midfielder is poised to put pen to paper on a deal with Forest after he terminated his contract with Watford on deadline day. Some sources are claiming that the 32-year-old will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal at the City Ground on Monday.
Watson decided to leave the Hornets on the January transfer deadline day and has become a free agent. It is believed that the midfielder underwent a medical at the Nottinghamshire outfit on Friday evening and is getting closer to completing his switch to West Bridgford. Aitor Karanka has already made plenty of new additions to his Forest team in the winter transfer window and Ben Watson is set to become his eighth new signing in five days.
The Championship side has already brought in the likes of Costel Pantilimon, Jack Colback, Adlene Guediora, Joe Lolley, Lee Tomlin, Ashkan Dejagah and Tobias Figueiredo on the transfer deadline day last week. Forest is also set to officially announce the arrival of Luke Dowling as their new sporting director on Monday.
Nottingham Forest is currently in 16th place in the Skybet Championship table with a tally of 35 points in 30 league matches. They have suffered back to back losses in the league which has left them in slight danger of suffering the agony of relegation to League One at the end of the current campaign. The Reds of Nottingham are 8 points above the relegation zone with some key fixtures coming up in February. The addition of Watson will undoubtedly boost their chances of survival going into the final stretch of the season.
The midfielder has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and the Championship, which will come in handy when the going gets tough for Forest during the relegation dogfight that they are about to embark upon in the coming months.
Watson has made 204 appearances in the second tier of English football, scoring 23 goals and providing 24 assists during his career. He knows what it takes to win, having won the FA Cup during his spell at Wigan Athletic and could turn out to be an ideal asset under Aitor Karanka at the City Ground. It remains to be seen if he can save the Tricky Trees and avoid the drop this season.
