A depressing night for the Toffees fans as Everton were thrashed 5-1 on the night at the hands of a dominant looking Arsenal side. Aaron Ramsey hit his first career hat-trick for the North London outfit and was the wrecker-in-chief of Everton’s hopes of making a comeback into the match in the later stages.
The abysmal performance makes the situation even more problematic for the Merseyside outfit, who were coming off a victory against Leicester City in their last match. Dominic Calvert Lewin scored the only goal for the away team in the second, but it was an effort too little too late to save the encounter for the Toffees, who went down by 4-0 in the first half itself.
Here are the Everton player ratings on the night.
Jordan Pickford: 6
Was left helpless by his defence as he conceded 5 on the night. Understandably frustrated by the lack of organization in front of him and could do little to save the goals.
Michael Keane: 4
The once-promising centre-back from Burnley looks completely out of form at Everton and had another miserable night with the Arsenal attack heaving in on him.
Ashley Williams: 3.5
The ex-Swansea City player is only a shadow of his former self and was left clueless in front of a full-throttle Gunners attack.
Eliaquim Mangala: 2.5
A nightmare of a debut for the Frenchman. Life in England keeps getting worse for him with each week and he was completely outplayed by the clever movement of the Arsenal forward line.
Cuco Martina: 5.5
Had a bad night because of the Arsenal attack but covered his shift reasonably well.
Jonjoe Kenny: 6
Another player who was let down by his teammates. The fullback was full of running and using the channel but the rest of the team let them down heavily.
Idrissa Gueye: 5
He won a few physical battles but was tactically ill-suited to help his team on such a night against a supremely smart attacking line-up.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 4
He is no longer the player who played out of his skin at Southampton. Slow on the ball, bereft of ideas while passing it and painfully bad with his positioning, the Frenchman’s days at the top level are nearing an end.
Yannick Bolasie: 6
Was good when running at defence but terribly ill-suited for the passing game. He needs to improve his tactical knowledge of the game so as to not slow the team down every single time.
Oumar Niasse: 6.5
Had a good game while running with the ball. Used his physique well to tease the Arsenal defence and held up the ball well but unfortunately did not have much support up front.
Theo Walcott: 7
Looked like a player who had a point to prove. He was full of running and creative energy. Came close to scoring but for a heroic last-minute tackle from Mustafi. Provided a peach of a cross which went on to hit the bar. Was given a standing ovation while being taken off, he will be happy with his form at Everton.
Substitutes:
Cenk Tosun: N/A
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 7
Scored a good goal and made things happen ever since he came on.
Tom Davies: 6
His introduction gave some life to the Everton midfield and although still immature on occasions, he can be a real asset in the future for the Toffees.
