Crystal Palace are among the host of Premier League clubs who can sign Manchester City’s Joe Hart in the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old is currently spending a season out on loan to West Ham United and have already fallen behind Adrian as the second choice keeper. City are well covered in the goalkeeper department with Ederson and Claudio Bravo and a transfer might just be in the talks for the England international.
Hart has undergone a rough period in his professional career over the past 2 seasons. Right after Pep Guardiola was appointed as the manager of Manchester City, Hart was sent out on loan to Serie A outfit, Torino.
Pep clearly held no love for Hart and went lengths by purchasing 2 goalkeepers in his 2 years at the charge of the City squad just to replace him. While Hart spent a year in Italy with Torino, he was met with the same criticism on his return to the Premier League.
West Ham United were struggling to put up wins and David Moyes did not waste any time to give his supposed understudy, the green light to feature in between the sticks regularly. A shot-stopper who is supposed to lead his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup cannot be delegated to the tag of a ‘cup keeper’.
A top professional needs to prove his talent against elite oppositions to be even considered for selection to the national side. While Gareth Southgate is holding out his patience with the 30-year-old, other younger and better options are starting to make their cases.
Everton’s Jordan Pickford has been impressive in between the sticks this season and is already starting to make headway in the Premier League. The 24-year-old along with Stoke City’s Jack Butland pose a serious threat to Hart’s number spot in the England team and it is time for the Shrewsbury-born keeper to make a change.
Crystal Palace can be an ideal home for Hart especially after Roy Hodgson’s rant earlier in the season over the incompetence of both his keepers Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni. The duo has been inconsistent in between the sticks and Hodgson has had to rotate them around to get the best out of them. He was scouring the market for a goalkeeper in the January window but decided to purchase a forward instead.
Christian Benteke’s woeful goal tally was costing the side dearly and Alexander Sorloth needed to be brought in to answer the scoring problems. The Eagles have dug themselves out of the bottom three with a run of wins in recent weeks.
However, the battle is not over yet with the last 13 games still left in the league and Hodgson will be overjoyed to reunite with the player who he had previously worked with while managing the England national team.
