Chelsea are playing hide and seek with their form this season. The Blues paid their price for yet another sub-standard display putting even more pressure on Conte’s job.
The defending champions gave up the 1-0 lead that they took over the Red Devils from a beautifully crafted goal scored by the in-form Brazilian attacker Willian as they sunk to a 2-1 defeat. Jose Mourinho’s men proved to be too strong for them as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard saw them fail to leave Old Trafford with any points in their bag on the night.
Here are the player ratings from their 2-1 loss to Manchester United this evening.
Thibaut Courtois: 7.5
A brilliant save from a lovely volley from Lukaku, he could do little about either goal. His defence was solid in general but failed to live up when needed.
Victor Moses: 4
A frustrating player with absolutely zero sense of creativity. He loves to waste space and slow down his team’s attack and is more of a comical player than a serious full back. Not worthy of a Chelsea jersey.
Cesar Azpiliceuta: 7
Marshalled the defence very well again and will be disappointed with the goals conceded. He was very good in everything he did.
Andreas Christensen: 6.5
Had a decent game and kept United at bay. Turned off for the goal that he conceded leaving his man free to head it in.
Antonio Rudiger: 7.5
A superb defensive display meaning that he was on top of Lukaku the entire match but failed to help his defence when in need.
Marcos Alonso: 6.5
A subdued display from the left back position, he was unable to help his team in the final third.
N’Golo Kante: 8
Did his best to help his side on the day and was tireless in his performance. However, he was outmuscled by the brilliance of Pogba on occasions.
Danny Drinkwater: 7.5
A good display, helped Chelsea control the game almost throughout. He showed exactly why he is much better Tiemoue Bakayoko and Conte should his stubborn attitude and play him more often.
Willian: 8
Once again he was Chelsea’s best player on the night He was bright in possession and linked up well with Hazard. He was untouchable on occasions and scored a brilliant goal on the counter.
Eden Hazard: 7
A quiet night from the Belgian. He was beautifully controlled by the man marking from McTominay in the early parts of the match. Provided a beautiful assist to help Willian through thereby showing his class.
Alvaro Morata: 4
A feather-light player, he was busy falling down rather than score a goal. Shameful performance.
Olivier Giroud: 5.5
Came on and helped Chelsea get some much-needed strength upfront.
Pedro: 2
A headless runner, he is better off playing in the semi-pro leagues as his footballing brains are non-existent.
