Latest reports have confirmed that Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele could be on his way to London next season to play for Stamford Bridge outfit Chelsea. The Blues are reportedly ready to bring in the former Borussia Dortmund star on a loan deal to England.
The 18-year-old winger moved to Barcelona for a mammoth fee but long-term injuries have seen the Frenchman most of his time sidelined. Chelsea could be ready to take him off Barcelona’s hands by offering him a loan deal for a season.
Dembele, should he move to London, will have no dearth of game time but will be expected to fill up the final third with Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata. The Frenchman was a star player back in his day in Germany while playing for Borussia Dortmund.
He signed for the German side back in the season of 2016-17 for a fee in the region of €15 million and had a fantastic season for them. His demand instantly rose in the market and a year later he was sold for almost ten times the price at a whopping €145 million deal. However, as discussed before, he has been unable to kickstart his career at Barcelona.
The Catalans have had a very successful season with Messi and company gunning for multiple trophies. They signed Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho last month and have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann. It would seem that Barcelona are preparing to once again dictate the most fearsome attack in all of Europe.
The Blaugrana side lost their Brazilian star Neymar last year for a world-record move and Dembele was brought in to replace the big shoes. However, riddled with injuries, he has fallen short and could face an exile at Chelsea for a year to regain his top form.
Getting a player of Dembele’s potential would be good news for the Blues who are short-stacked in the attack. They do not have enough quality to challenge for multiple trophies with Pedro being the most average of them all. Willian has shown great form in the last few days but he is far too inconsistent for an entire season and Eden Hazard could be on his way out.
Although a loan deal would not be ideal for a club like Chelsea, it would still give them enough time and quality to launch an attack on several trophies. Hence, if they do get the chance to sign him, they should take it up.
