According to reports, Chelsea bosses are working on a deal to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The 25-year-old custodian has been in good form this season and has played most of the matches for the Rome outfit in goal. He arrived from Brazilian club Internacional in the summer of 2016 and has gone on to become one of the important players at the club owing to some impressive performances.
It is being reported that the West London club feels that Alisson is the perfect man to guard the real goal. The player’s age and quality have put him under the radar of the bosses at Stamford Bridge and a deal is being already worked on, according to reports, to bring the player to London should they lose Thibaut Courtois.
Since the arrival of Petr Cech in the summer of 2004, the goalkeeping position at Chelsea has had the problem of plenty. Cech replaced the then Chelsea number one Carlo Cudicini with some impressive performances. The Czech Republic international kept hold of his starting spot for a decade before being replaced by Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois. The story was similar, only this time Cech was on the receiving end and the club legend moved on by joining North London side Arsenal.
It now seems that the Blues’ current number one could be ready to part ways with the Stamford Bridge outfit. The Belgian is yet to sign a contract extension and has done little to quash the rumours about him leaving.
He has been reportedly on Real’s shopping list since Real Madrid president Florentino Perez missed out on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. If recent reports are to be believed, Paris Saint Germain is not far behind either on chasing his signature. This would mean that getting the Brazilian goalkeeper could prove to be a vital move if Chelsea are to maintain their high standards of performance in goal.
Chelsea have always maintained a high standard in goal and getting the Roman custodian in goal could be vital to continue their high level of defensive performances if Courtois chooses to leave. Alisson would be a genuinely good signing for Chelsea for days to come but whether Roma, who have lost half their side in the last two windows, will agree to sell again remains to be seen.
