Chelsea are interested in securing the services of Bayer 04 Leverkusen youngster, Leon Bailey next summer. According to a report in Talksport, the Blues are set to reignite their interest in the Bundesliga starlet at the summer transfer window and could face stiff competition from Arsenal and Manchester United in pursuit of his signature. However, Bayer Leverkusen will only sell Leon Bailey if any of his potential suitors are ready to stump up a fee in the region of £100m for his services.
The Premier League trio are closely monitoring his situation at Leverkusen after the youngster has been in dazzling form for the Bundesliga club so far this term, finding the back of the net 8 times in 18 Bundesliga appearances. The 20-year-old is eager to test himself in England but he won’t come cheap for any of his potential suitors which could be a stumbling block in Chelsea’s pursuit of the Jamaican winger. Some sources are now claiming that Bayer Leverkusen are reluctant to part ways with their prized asset, who only made a switch from the Belgian side Genk a year ago and is under contract until 2022 at the Bay Arena.
With the Jamaican Under 23 international in such great form, the German outfit reckons that they can get a similar value to what Ousmane Dembele went for last summer when he made a switch to Barcelona for £97m. Hence it has been suggested that only an offer in the same region would be enough to convince Leverkusen to sell their star winger.
Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 50 points in 26 Premier League matches but are a massive 19 points behind league leaders Manchester City. Antonio Conte’s men have fallen off the pace in recent weeks due to their lack of firepower up top. A possible move for Bailey in the summer might address some of their attacking concerns and help them close the gap to the Manchester clubs next season. Bailey has made a total of 21 appearances for Bayer 04 Leverkusen this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists across all competitions.
However, any possible move would cost the west London club a fortune, which they might not be willing to make at this point in time.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Jamaican starlet and whether Chelsea are successful in fending off stiff competition from fellow Premier League rivals to win the race for his signature.
